Digitization: Guide and Best Practices
Arrowhead Library System - Mountain Iron, MN.
We have compiled a set of guidelines and best practices for digitization projects by Minnesota
libraries and other cultural heritage institutions.
Best Practices Documents
These two documents provide basic information that will be useful for libraries, museums,
historical societies or other organizations undertaking a digitization project. The documents
will serve as references for projects of the Minnesota Digital Library, other digitization
projects by Minnesota libraries, and for LSTA grant applications.
They have been adopted by the Minnesota Digital Library, the Minitex Advisory Committee, and
the Advisory Council of the Minnesota state library agency, Libraries and School Technology
(a unit of the Minnesota Department of Education).
These Best Practices, which are evolving documents, were developed by the Western States
Digital Standards Group:
Guide to Digital Projects
This Guide has been prepared by a Working Group of the Minitex/LDS Joint Standards Review Task
Force in collaboration with the Minnesota Digital Library to provide a companion to the two
Western States Digital Standards Group best practices documents and to provide other information
for staff involved in digitization activity.
