MINITEX/OCLC Membership Governance

OCLC Representation

MINITEX/OCLC members are represented in OCLC governance through the OCLC Members Council, Strategic Service Area Advisory Committees and the MINITEX/OCLC Members Group.

OCLC Members Council and Advisory Committee Representation

The OCLC Members Council comprises delegates representing OCLC-affiliated networks and service centers. The Members Council supports OCLC's mission by serving as a key discussion forum and communications link between member libraries, regional networks and other partners, and OCLC management. The Members Council has two main functions:

  • to provide OCLC with advice and counsel
  • to elect members to the OCLC Board of Trustees

MINITEX's Members Council delegates are Bruce Willms, Metropolitan State University and Wilbur Stolt, University of North Dakota. Our alternates are Angi Faiks, Macalester College and Ethelle Bean, Dakota State University.

Besides Members Council, OCLC fosters and maintains communications with specific segments of its membership through advisory committees and user groups. OCLC advisory committees and user groups have been established for a number of reasons. Some committees and groups are product-related in their focus, while others represent the interests of a particular branch or "type" of librarianship. There are also MARC format-specific user groups and user groups that are geographic in nature and work with OCLC's regional networks.

A big thank-you goes to all nominees who are willing to have their names placed on ballots. We want to extend special appreciation to those who have and continue to serve MINITEX in these important positions.

You can find more information on OCLC governance at the Members Council Web site.

MINITEX Representation

Each library contracting through MINITEX for OCLC services that has a unique OCLC symbol is a member of the MINITEX/OCLC Members Group. Each library determines its own representative. The Members Group nominates and elects Delegates and Alternates to the OCLC Members Council.

A Steering Committee is made up of the current OCLC Members Council Delegates, the Members Council Alternates, a representative from MINITEX, and a representative from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. Besides administering the Group, the Steering Committee is responsible for nominating representatives to the OCLC Strategic Service Area Advisory Committees.

The current MINITEX/OCLC Members Group Steering Committee is:

  • Bruce Willms (XOJ)
    Delegate, OCLC Members Council (2005-2008)
  • Wilbur Stolt (UND)
