Product Highlights
Background
The ACLS History E-Book Project is a collaboration of eight learned societies,
nearly 75 contributing publishers, and librarians at the University of Michigan's
Scholarly Publishing Office. The result is an online, fully searchable collection
of high-quality books in history, recommended and reviewed by historians and
featuring unlimited multi-user access and free, downloadable MARC records.
The Project is available 24/7 on- and off-campus through standard Web browsers. The
ACLS History E-Book Project was initially funded by a grant from The Andrew W.
Mellon Foundation.
Titles
As of January 2006, the ACLS History E-Book Project includes over 1,230 titles
selected by historians in most fields of history. Approximately 250 titles are
added each year.
The collection includes both in- and out-of-print titles ranging from 1885
through 2005. Titles link to important online reviews in JSTOR and other sites.
Over 300 titles are currently available in print-on-demand (POD) format.
As of March 2006, the Project had 440 subscribing institutions ranging from
research university libraries to secondary school libraries.
MARC Records
MARC records are available free to subscribers. Once a subscription is set up,
the contacts at the subscribing institution will be sent download instructions.
The records are MARC21, USMARC records prepared by the University of Michigan
Libraries.
