BioOne

Product Highlights

BioOne offers a uniquely valuable aggregation of full-text, high-impact bioscience journals and other scholarly material. Focusing on the fields of organismal and integrative biology, ecology and environmental science, BioOne offers comprehensive and affordable access to peer-reviewed scholarly research.

Collaboration among scientific societies, publishers, librarians and academe drives BioOne's success. This innovative partnership allows BioOne to draw from the respective strengths of these participants in the scientific communication process in pursuit of its mission—the long-term sustainability of reasonably priced publications published by non-profit organizations.

BioOne offers a complete and functional environment that allows for browsing specific- or cross-journal searching, reference linking and new information alerting.

BioOne also provides:

  • Primary access to important bioscience content—the majority of participating titles are only available on BioOne.
  • End-user tools, such as advanced search and support for most citation format managers.
  • Thesaurus searching, search alerts and multi-lingual interfaces via the BioOne Abstracting and Indexing service provided at no cost to subscribers through CSA.
  • Robust COUNTER-compliant usage statistics.
  • Library-friendly licensing terms that allow for interlibrary loan, broad fair-use permission and archiving via LOCKSS®.
  • Steadfast commitment to long-term preservation of online content.
  • Unique partnership with JSTOR® to provide complete back-issue archival access and seamless cross-platform searching.

BioOne offers two databases:

  • BioOne.1
  • BioOne.2

BioOne's first database, BioOne.1, was introduced in 2001 with 43 titles from 35 scholarly societies and other nonprofit publishers. The existing set today includes 82 publications from 65 publishers.

BioOne's new database, BioOne.2, is scheduled to go live in January 2007. BioOne.2 has 29 confirmed titles from 18 publishers, with more anticipated for addition prior to the launch date. BioOne will be offering significantly discounted pricing on subscriptions to BioOne.2 for libraries ordering both collections.
