MULS Training
We offer a variety of training opportunities for staff at participating libraries.
Since the primary use of MULS information is for ILL and resource location, our
primary goal is to make sure that Local Holdings Records in OCLC are accurate and
up-to-date. Thus, most of our training is designed to help staff retrieve, edit,
create and delete the Local Holdings Records that other libraries and staff will
be reading and relying upon.
Local Holdings Maintenance in Connexion
This is a one-day workshop designed to give staff an opportunity not only to
learn about the mechanics of creating, editing and deleting Local Holdings
Records, but also to work hands-on in the OCLC Connexion Browser. For those
who prefer to learn by doing, this is an excellent opportunity.
Note: Periodically, we bring this day-long workshop to areas outside
the Twin Cities. Many factors, including cost, impact our decisions about where,
when and how often we can offer these sessions. If you are interested in having
hands-on training in your area or in coming to a hands-on session, please
contact us and we'll include that in our planning.
Local Holdings Maintenance Webinars
Designed for those who want training in smaller doses or who might have
difficulty traveling to an all-day workshop, webinars provide a welcome
alternative. Using a shared Internet connection and conference call, we
can provide training to groups as small as 4-5 participants. While hands-on
opportunities are not yet part of our webinar offerings, the live presentation
allows for questions and demonstration of the actual updating process via
the Connexion Browser.
Copies of the webinar handouts are available via links below the descriptions of
individual webinar sessions on the Minitex Training pages, and may be useful for
an overview or review of the training covered. Recorded versions of our MULS unit
webinars are also available in an online archive for viewing at your convenience.
Look for a link under the webinar you are interested in.
Note: Webinars require that your computer conform to certain requirements.
For more details and to run a test of your local system, see our webinar technology
requirements Web page.
