Ebooks Minnesota, with its barrier-free access and unlimited simultaneous licensing (for most titles), is an ideal platform to serve Minnesota communities and classrooms.  A community read is a shared reading experience in which members of the community or a classroom read and discuss one book.  A community can range from a single classroom to a whole school or district, to a community, city, or beyond.  A community/classroom read aligns with Ebooks Minnesota book selection criteria by filling identified, expressed, or anticipated needs in the community and relevance to the community's education, informational, and recreational needs.

The Ebooks Minnesota Collection Development Committee has created a form for teachers and educators interested in requesting a book for a classroom or school read.  The Ebooks Minnesota Classroom Read Request is designed to assist and engage the Minnesota K12 community, generate in-class discussion, and foster the exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Similar to the Classroom Read Request, the Ebooks Minnesota Community Read Request can be used to request or suggest a book for a larger community-wide read within the state of Minnesota.  This can assist in building community across ages, socioeconomic levels, and various backgrounds.  It can also help to unite communities and promote closer ties among community members through the shared experience of reading, sharing, and discussing the same book and ideas related to topics raised by the text.

Please share this information with colleagues, teachers, educators, and community members who may be interested, and contact Beth Staats with any questions regarding this program.
