Background

The CALD Cooperative Collection Management Project is a coordinated effort among Minnesota academic libraries to ensure that learners and researchers in Minnesota have access to the scholarly record of print monographs.

While electronic copies of materials are increasingly accessible and may more conveniently meet many scholarly needs, the ongoing need for access to print copies requires collaborative agreements among libraries to ensure that individual collection management decisions do not eliminate materials to the detriment of scholars.

Beginning in 2020, libraries participating in the CALD Cooperative Collection Management Program have agreed to retain certain scarce monographs in order to ensure continued access to print copies.

This program was made possible by a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant.

Quick Facts

  • 270,211 title holdings retained by six participating libraries
  • On average, institutions committed to retain 17% of their circulating print monographs
  • Institutions are committed to retain titles for 5 years
