How to Save the World with ACRL Framework Skills

The ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education lays out a number of key information literacy concepts. These concepts are challenging and, once attained, will inform students’ information use throughout their lives. If you’re looking for a way to engage your students in an introduction to one or more of these concepts, consider a new learning tool from Minitex called Information Fallout.

Information Fallout uses narrative to engage students in exploration of information literacy concepts. It is based in a post-apocalyptic world brought to ruin by misinformation. Players battle the forces of misinformation as personified in six evil characters.

In order to battle these agents of misinformation, players attain and deploy Info Tactics, which are aligned to the ACRL Framework.

The game is short; it takes about 20 minutes to complete. As such, we hope that you might combine it with classroom discussion and activity to delve more deeply into the Framework concepts. We’ve devised some lesson plan ideas to provide examples of how you might integrate Information Fallout into a one-shot or other instructional setting.
