University of Minnesota Libraries has unveiled a new platform for the Historic Minneapolis Newspaper Card Index. Three newspaper indexes, Minneapolis Tribune, Minnesota Daily, and Minneapolis Star, are now discoverable for critical years not covered by digital newspaper collections. Years of coverage for the collection are:
- 1900 – 1922
- 1940 – 1945
- 1950 – 1954
- 1963 – 1977
This will be a useful tool for History Day researchers and the general public as well. The caveat is that it is only an index collection and does not link to any online full-text. However, University Libraries still maintain their microfilm collection for all these print newspapers and their microfilm readers are easy to use and allow screen pages to be printed off or emailed.
