Minitex is pleased to offer the following multi-consortial deal:

LYRASIS has been in discussion with Harvard University Press regarding an offer for The Digital Loeb Classical Library resource. In their discussions with Harvard, they have explored the possibility of making this an Inter-Consortial License (ICL) offer, similar in nature to their Ambrose Video and Statista offers. As participation increases, so will the discount. They would like to expand the group with libraries interested in acquiring this content via partner consortia. All Minitex libraries are eligible to participate in this offer, and LYRASIS has a robust set of 30 highly interested members at this point.

LYRASIS'S ICL process is as follows:

First, they need to gather a group of highly interested libraries. They would like to attract libraries of all sizes and negotiate on their behalf. No one should assume that the pricing will be out of reach! Negotiation possibilities are increased with a larger group of interested libraries.

Second, they will negotiate with HUP for a customized offer for this group and then share the offer with the interested libraries via their consortial representative. No consortia or library will be asked for a final commitment until we have negotiated pricing.

Action Item:

Please email cpers@minitex.umn.edu if your library is interested in participating in an HUP Digital Loeb Classical Library offer, by February 5, 2015 (no commitments yet!). Please review more details about the collection content and the offer below.

The goal is to have pricing for your review early in 2015, and then we will seek commitments for final purchases. Libraries participating in the offer will be asked to agree to the terms of the LYRASIS central license.

About the Harvard University Press Digital Loeb Classical Library

The Loeb Digital Library presents over 520 volumes of Latin, Greek, and English texts in digital form allowing readers to browse, search, bookmark, annotate, and share content. An interconnected, fully searchable, perpetually growing, virtual library of Greek and Latin literature, The Digital Loeb includes accurate English translations of epic and lyric poetry; tragedy and comedy; history, travel, philosophy, and oratory and other documents of Greek and Latin Classical importance. You can request a free 60 day trial here.

Key features:

  • All Loeb volumes in print, including biannual editions
  • Toggle between single and dual language reading modes
  • Search across the full library in English, Latin, and Greek
  • Bookmark, organize, and annotate in a personal workspace
  • Share notes and reading lists with other users

HUP has shared list pricing for this series in order to provide a baseline for your consideration. If we are successful in building a strong group of libraries, the prices we will be able to negotiate will, of course, be lower than the list prices. The perpetual access option has a $400.00 annual access fee that is waived the first year.

To support the Build-a-Group effort for the Harvard Digital Loeb Library, LYRASIS will host a series of informative webinars open to all members of our potential partner consortia. Gregory Kornbluh from HUP will conduct the webinars and will cover the resource functionality, tools, and a brief demonstration, etc.
