Quick Summary

Who doesn’t love playing the guitar at someone for hours at a time? (Even if their name’s not Ken.) That is one of the reasons why I began learning the guitar back in high school, but I’ve fallen out of practice a bit since then. I turned to Ebooks Minnesota for a refresher.

Who doesn’t love playing the guitar at someone for hours at a time? (Even if their name’s not Ken.) That is one of the reasons why I began learning the guitar back in high school, but I’ve fallen out of practice a bit since then. I turned to Ebooks Minnesota for a refresher.

One of the biggest obstacles for beginners, myself included, is understanding the parts of a guitar and how they all work together to create different sounds. “Guitar” by Kate Riggs explains it all. We guitar belongs to the family of stringed instruments, characterized by plucking or strumming strings in different combinations to make music. Her book also explains the fundamentals of the guitar and its history.

If you need convincing, check out “Is the Guitar for You?” by Elaine Landau. It goes into greater detail on the parts of a guitar, moving from the tuning pegs all the way down to the end pin and through everything in between. It also explores the diverse genres of music guitars are used for, ranging from classical to rock to country music. Landau also offers tips for beginners and words of encouragement, always helpful when you’re starting something new.

Mary Linden’s guitar series explores the genres of music and the role the guitar plays in each. “Cool Latin Music” covers the history of Latin Music and how it has evolved from its roots in Jazz to the music we hear today. Linden also describes the subgenres within Latin Music and how to make your own Latin music. “Cool Rock Music” explores the development of, yes, you guessed it, rock-n-roll, from Elvis Presley to the punk rock that came later. It also explores the critical role the guitar played in popularizing rock-n-roll, and how to play some rock yourself.

Playing a new instrument is hard, but resources are available to make the process easier. Jumpstart your musical career by checking out these Ebooks Minnesota titles (and many more, including books on other instruments)! Just make sure to remember me when you're famous.
