A new collection in the Minnesota Digital Library, that of the Lake Minnetonka Historical Society, is now available. The collection is the result of the merger of three museums, two of which held collections in the Minnesota Digital Library.
The Minnesota Digital Library is excited to announce that two of our collections - the Excelsior Lake Minnetonka Historical Society and the Westonka Historical Society - have merged to become the Lake Minnetonka Historical Society. The Lake Minnetonka Historical Society (LMHS) was founded in 2023 through the consolidation of the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society, the Museum of Lake Minnetonka, Wayzata Historical Society and the Westonka Historical Society. LMHS is dedicated to telling the story of Lake Minnetonka by collecting, preserving and sharing its history.
The Minnesota Digital Library images from LMHS feature the Excelsior Amusement Park, operated from 1924-1974; an extensive postcard collection; maps; and the Tonka Toy Company, founded in 1947 in Mound, Minnesota.
